Using the Scania

So unfortunately during the pandemic my partner decided that she wanted some space so I had to move back in with the parents,

And this is why I like working for a family owned business with true family values

I spoke to my boss and asked if I paid him could I borrow a vehicle to collect my car and belongings and without hesitation told me it was fine just use it as I worked all through Covid and felt I really helped the company, this made me feel genuinely valued by the company and means more to me than working for a bigger company for a little bit more money

Out in the Iveco

Sanitation Lorry

The Iveco euro cargo,5 speed manual with analogue tacho.

Ever wondered where the contents of a portable toilet go, well I covered the “pump round” while the usual driver was off on holiday it’s not the most glorious job to do but it certainly isn’t as bad as you think it would be but hey its one if those jobs someone had to do,but now having some experience with a tanker I can say after a week of pumping out toilets it felt like you were at sea when the tank is half full it was certainly a experience having a liquid load, and I can appreciate more why a Milk Tanker breaks in good time.

a new thing I experienced was one of the days it was raining so a car following behind me was obviously following too close and getting sprayed so he decided to over take as we were approaching stationary traffic then cut across the front of me and anchor on the breaks so I had my first experience of being cut up in a lorry luckily I was already slowing for the traffic ahead so I didn’t have to anchor on too much.

It was a variety of different places some were residential, roadside and building sites there were some tight spaces to get into but it was nice to have a bit of variety

First time out on my own.

so the company I now work for have asked me to to take a 3 tonne digger to Bath which is about a hour away from the yard,

Driving wise I was feeling confident as I was going to be driving a 7.5T DAF LF which to be fair isn’t a-lot wider than a transit although I cant wait to get the chance to be behind the wheel of our bigger plant lorries

Loading the digger, Ive worked for the company before and have driven and worked with diggers but I have never had to transport anything bigger than a 1.5 T mini digger on a trailer so going up the steep ramps on the lorry did not feel right at first but as-long as the dozer blade is behind and you have the arm extended out and drive up the ramps at a consistent and smooth speed it went up nicely as soon as it pivots over the beavertail your flat and level coming down was much the same it certainly takes some getting used to i took another one out after and got it on and off in half the time.
